OPAP Pass Counter at the Athens Authentic Marathon 2021

At the Athens Authentic Marathon 2021, OPAP turned every step into support for a good cause: pressure mats under branded gates counted each person who walked through, and OPAP donated to charity according to the total.

Challenge

In November 2021, OPAP took part in the Athens Authentic Marathon as part of its CSR programme of offerings. The brand wanted runners and visitors to play an active part in its giving, and to make that contribution visible on the spot. Digital Tribes asked ABOVE Digital for a simple, reliable way to do it.

Solution

ABOVE Digital created a people-pass counter. Pressure mats were placed under colourful OPAP gates, and every time someone walked through, the mat registered the pass. A display next to each gate showed the running total live, and OPAP’s donation to charity was linked to the number of passes.

Why it works

Everyone can take part just by walking through a gate, with no app, sign-up or effort. The live counter shows people that their step really counts, which makes the cause tangible and gives them a reason to pass through and bring others along. For the brand, CSR stops being a statement and becomes something the public does together, in plain sight. The format suits sponsors at races, festivals and any public event with a cause behind it.
